Antipsychotic drug use rises among British kids

According to a new study, American children are prescribed antipsychotic medications much more frequently than British children, but the use of these drugs is on the rise in the United Kingdom. London researchers examined health records of more than 16,000 children over the course of 13 years. They found that though U.S. children used antipsychotics at nearly six times the rate of U.K. kids, the rates of use among British children had nearly doubled between 1992 and 2005. Drugs that treat autism and hyperactivity were the most commonly used antipsychotics among kids.
