Caregivers of heart patients boost their own heart risks

According to new research, being a caregiver for a family member recently hospitalized with heart disease can affect the caregiver’s own heart health. Scientists looked at heart risk factors in the family members of cardiac patients and found higher levels of risk factors for heart disease in caregivers than in non-caregivers. Caregivers were also more likely to be depressed after six months than those who provided little or no care.
