Cholesterol screening urged for kids

New guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics are urging wider cholesterol screening and more aggressive use of cholesterol-lowering drugs in children as young as age eight. Supporters of this move say there is growing evidence that the first signs of heart disease show up in childhood. But others say the move is sure to provoke controversy amid a continuing debate about the use of prescription drugs in children and the best approaches to ward off heart disease in adults.
