Doctors may not give mood disorder patients insomnia meds
Doctors may be less likely to prescribe sleeping medications to
patients who have insomnia and depression, anxiety, or other mood
disorders, according to a new study. An analysis of treatment
patterns found that insomnia patients with mental health disorders
were 36 percent less likely to receive medication for their
sleeping problems than patients without a mental health diagnosis.
The study also found that psychiatrists were twice as likely as
primary care physicians to prescribe medication for insomnia.
