E-prescriptions coming soon for addictive meds

Government officials say doctors may soon be able to electronically prescribe potentially addictive medications instead of having to provide written orders for the drugs. Unlike most prescription meds, those with high potential for abuse, including some painkillers and those used to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, must be sold with a written prescription, even for refills. Under the new rule, doctors could prescribe the restricted medicines electronically, which could make it easier for patients to manage their medications.
