Early-stage heart test underused, experts say

A new study published in the British Medical Journal suggests that 70 percent of patients with suspected angina don't receive the correct testing, and this may be increasing their risk of developing serious heart problems. Angina is a condition characterized by chest pain caused by a lack of blood and oxygen supply to the heart. It is often preceded by atherosclerosis, or the hardening and narrowing of arteries. Researchers say women, elderly people, ethnic minorities, and people with lower incomes are the most likely to miss angina testing.
