Expert: Painkiller benefits outweigh abuse risks

Many doctors and patients are concerned about the addictive quality of painkillers, but one expert says that the benefits of the drugs may outweigh the risks. Dr. Srinivasa Raja says that less than three percent of patients become dependent on these meds. But Raja says that the stigma attached to opioid painkillers may prevent doctors from prescribing them to patients, despite the fact that they remain an important part of pain-relieving treatment methods.
