FDA: Don't swallow inhaler capsules

The capsules associated with the medications Spiriva and Foradil should be used with their intended inhalation devices and not swallowed, U.S. health officials warn. While officials say that few patients have reported side effects from swallowed capsules, the capsules are only effective against respiratory symptoms if they are used with the Spiriva HandiHaler or Foradil Aerolizer.
