FDA reviews Enbrel, Humira, Remicade

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has begun a safety review of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers, a class of drugs that includes the medications Enbrel, Remicade, and Humira. The agency says the drugs are being reviewed for a possible link with the development of lymphoma and other cancers in children and young adults treated for juvenile idiopathic arthritis and Crohn's disease. While the review is ongoing, the FDA is advising doctors to weigh the possible cancer link against the benefits of treatment when prescribing TNF blockers to children and young adults.
