FDA urges warnings on anti-seizure meds

Officials at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are urging that a black box warning be placed on epilepsy drugs to warn users about the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors linked to the meds. The FDA will ask an advisory panel to weigh the proposed boxed warning--the strongest type the agency can seek--later this week. Drugs that would be affected by this move include Lyrica, Topamax, Depakote, and Lamictal. Several of these meds are also used to treat chronic pain, diabetic neuropathy, bipolar disorder, and migraines.
