FDA warns about off-label use of Rituxan
The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning that the off-label use of Rituxan may cause a deadly brain infection in some patients. Two patients with systemic lupus erythematosus died of the viral brain infection after being prescribed Rituxan to treat symptoms of their condition. Rituxan is only approved for use in patients with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis.
