Fewer, higher doses of radiation work too
British researchers say that fewer sessions with higher doses of
radiation may be just as effective as traditional doses for
patients recovering from breast cancer. The scientists say that by
giving fewer, higher doses, patients are exposed to less radiation
overall but with equivalent rates of tumor recurrence. And fewer
doses may help relieve the burden of an extensive treatment time
that breast cancer patients endure, since traditional therapy can
last up to six weeks and involve daily treatments.
