Gut bacteria fights IBD

A recent animal study suggests that a sugar molecule produced in the intestines may eliminate the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The molecule--called polysaccharide A--is produced by a bacteria. Researchers say the sugar molecule works by spurring a process that reduces inflammation and IBD symptoms. The discovery implies that there may be other "good" bacteria that could bring about new IBD treatments, experts say.
