Heart study contradicts 'fit but fat' theory

A new study of 39,000 women contradicts the theory that it's possible to be fit, but fat. Harvard researchers followed the women for 11 years to determine if moderate daily exercise--30 minutes per day--would trump body mass index when considering heart disease. The researchers found that although activity significantly lowered the impact of obesity, the risk for developing heart disease was still 54 percent higher in overweight active women, and 87 percent higher in obese active women.
