Heartburn meds may lead to fractures
Canadian researchers say that using heartburn-reducing medications
for more than seven years may increase your risk of
osteoporosis-related bone fractures. Researchers studied 63,000
adults and found that those who had used a proton-pump inhibitor
(PPI) for seven years or more were almost twice as likely to have
an osteoporosis-related bone fracture as people who had used a PPI
for less time. Using PPIs for six years or less was not associated
with a fracture risk, researchers say.
