New test no better for head, neck cancers
Older methods of diagnosing head and neck cancers may be just as good as newer, high-tech ways, a new study suggests. Researchers analyzed 32 studies and found that a new type of positron emission tomography (PET) scan was not more effective than traditional MRI or CT scans when it came to correct diagnosis. And researchers found that the PET scan incorrectly identified normal tissue as cancerous 13 percent of the time.
