House bill mandates mental health coverage
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that would
require insurance companies to provide coverage for mental health
and substance abuse treatment in the same way they cover other
medical conditions. While some applaud the bill's passage, others
say the federal mandate may have a negative impact by overriding
some states' mental health coverage. It may also raise insurance
rates and cause employers to drop mental health coverage
completely.
