HRT in a patch may be safer
Using the patch form of hormone replacement therapy may be safer than taking it in pill form, according to an analysis of several studies. HRT delivered through a skin patch seems to reduce the risk of blood clots forming in the veins, a condition that can prove fatal if they travel to the lungs or other vital organs. Women who used the patch had only a slightly elevated risk of clots compared to women taking no estrogen. Women taking HRT in pill form were 2.5 times more likely to develop a clot.
