HRT patch may be safer for the gall bladder
A new study shows that hormone replacement therapy delivered in a
patch may lower the risk of gallbladder disease as compared to HRT
in pill form. Researchers found that women who took HRT through a
patch or gel were significantly less likely to be hospitalized for
gallbladder disease and less likely to need their gallbladder
removed than women who received HRT in tablets. Post-menopausal
women are prone to gallbladder disease, and research has shown that
HRT increases the risk. The researchers studied data from 1.3
million British women ages 50 to 69 years.
