More emergency room visits due to prescription drug overdoses

A new report shows an increase in visits to the emergency room caused by the abuse or misuse of prescription drugs. A government health agency said that overdoses of prescription medications such as methadone, OxyContin, and methylphenidate (Concerta) are becoming almost as common as overdoses of illegal drugs. ER visits involving legal drugs increased 21 percent from 2004 to 2005.
