New drug-coated stent shows promise

A new kind of drug-coated stent has shown promise in its first large-scale U.S. study. Researchers say that the new Xience stent is more effective at reducing major cardiovascular events at the time of implant than the older Taxus stent. The Xience stent is not yet approved for use in the United States, and researchers say it's still too early to know if these good preliminary results will translate into a long-term reduction in patient deaths.  Read full story >
