Number of fat cells stays the same despite weight loss

Researchers have known that maintaining a weight loss is difficult, and now they may know why. A new study suggests that regardless how much weight you lose or gain, the number of fat cells in the body does not change. The number of cells are determined in childhood or during the teen years, researchers say, and while the cells volume changes--they get fatter or thinner--the actual number stays the same no matter what body type you have.
