Obesity drug may treat Type 2 diabetes

A new drug to help people lose weight may also help patients with Type 2 diabetes, researchers say. Many of the currently available medications designed to control blood-glucose levels promote weight gain. However, researchers found that 20 mg of Acomplia (rimonabant) per day not only helped patients with Type 2 diabetes lose weight, it improved blood-glucose levels and other cardiovascular risk factors significantly more than placebo.
