PTSD could mean long-term health problems
New research suggests that veterans and other survivors of severe
stress who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be
at risk for long-term health problems. In fact, researchers say
PTSD sufferers are as likely to have potentially serious health
issues as people with chronic disease risk factors such as elevated
levels of white blood cells and inflammation in the body. But
experts say few healthcare providers screen for PTSD in the same
way as they screen for other chronic disease risk factors.
