Reflux, Parkinson's meds may slow seniors down
A class of drugs known as anticholinergics may cause seniors to
"slow down" in their daily activities, two new studies suggest.
Anticholinergics include some common medications, including Zantac,
a drug for acid reflux, and Detol, for urinary incontinence.
Researchers studied 3,000 seniors and found that those who took
anticholinergics walked more slowly and were more likely to need
help in their daily activities. Researchers say the drug class
slowed people down in a way that would be expected in someone three
or four years older.
