Ruling delays generic Lipitor until 2011

A patent dispute agreement between drugmaker Pfizer and generic drugmaker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. means that generic versions of the cholesterol drug Lipitor won't be available on the U.S. market until November 30, 2011. Pfizer officials say the agreement will allow patients much earlier access to the generic formula of Lipitor. It will also give Pfizer more time to develop replacements for Lipitor before generic versions go on the market.
