Scientists ID genetic links between Crohn's, colitis

Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are similar but distinct bowel diseases, but new research has uncovered some of their genetic links. In one study, British researchers found that several genes tied to the development of Crohn's were also linked to the development of colitis. And another study found that many factors known to influence susceptibility to ulcerative colitis were also connected to Crohn's. Experts say these studies may help unravel the connection between the two diseases.
