Studies: ED predicts heart trouble in diabetic men

Two new studies have added to the evidence that erectile dysfunction (ED) may be a powerful warning sign of serious heart disease. Hong Kong researchers who studied 2,306 men who had diabetes but no signs of heart disease found that those with ED were 58 percent more likely to have a heart attack or other major cardiac problem over the next four years than those with adequate sexual function. And investigators in Italy who followed 291 diabetic men who had early heart disease reported that those with ED were twice as likely as men without the problem to have a major cardiovascular event, including stroke.
