Study: Omega-3s do not ease Crohn's
Experts say that up to 20 percent of Crohn's patients use omega-3
fatty acid supplements to help prevent symptoms, but a new study
suggests the fatty acids may not help. Canadian scientists studied
738 Crohn's patients and found that those who received 4 grams of
omega-3s per day relapsed at essentially the same rate as the
patients who received a placebo. The researchers did note that
those who received fatty acid supplements did lower their
triglyceride levels, but the supplements did not appear to prevent
Crohn's symptoms.
