Survey: Americans often share prescriptions
A new survey has found that 23 percent of Americans loan their
prescription medications to someone else, and 27 percent have
borrowed prescription drugs. The medications most frequently shared
were allergy drugs (25 percent), followed by painkillers (22
percent) and antibiotics (21 percent). Other shared drugs included
antidepressants, stimulants, acne meds, and birth control pills.
Experts say that though some drug sharing is expected and harmless,
sharing some drugs--including acne medications and antibiotics--can
carry significant risks.
