Tilapia may not help your heart

The popular fish tilapia may actually harm your heart, new research suggests. Investigators found that the farm-raised variety of the fish contains low levels of healthy omega-3 fatty acids and high levels of unhealthy omega-6 fatty acids. This combination, researchers caution, could be particularly bad for patients with heart disease, arthritis, asthma, and other diseases involving overactive inflammatory responses. Experts say tilapia is unhealthy because the food the fish are fed to keep their cost low is adversely affecting the animals' nutritional value.
