Why some people delay knee replacement surgery

In a recent study, the investigators identified four themes in patients' experiences of total knee replacement, which the researchers named "putting up and putting off," "waiting and worrying," "letting go and letting in," and "hurting and hoping." The researchers say their findings suggest that patients need more--and better--education and support about knee replacement surgery and making the decision to have it.
