A new survey released by RealAge, Inc. suggests that of the 20 million Americans who live with symptoms of gastrointestinal (GI) distress, more than 40 percent of them are too embarrassed or afraid to discuss the symptoms with their doctor. According to the survey, 92 percent of the participants had tried to treat their GI symptoms, but only 28 percent of them were satisfied with the results. To educate patients on the symptoms of common GI disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome, RealAge and Zelnorm maker Novartis have launched a GI Relief Center on their Web site. The site includes checklists of symptoms and information on over-the-counter and prescription medications, including Zelnorm.
